Two of the men accused of killing a Roan Mountain couple in their home and then setting the bodies on fire to dispose of the evidence were each assigned $100,000 bond in Carter County Criminal Court Tuesday.
Jeffery Lynn Whitehead, 61, and Jonathan Scott Shell, 22, were not brought into the courtroom from the jail for their appearances, but Circuit Court Judge Robert Cupp set the bond amounts at the request of their attorneys.
Assistant District Attorney Dennis Brooks said he did not object to the amount requested by the lawyers.
Whitehead and Shell have been held in the Carter County Jail without bond since their arrests in February, charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Joyce Brock and Russell Glenn Shell.
