Several outbuildings broken into at Hampton location

By

Four Hampton residents say someone broke into their outbuildings recently, most reporting only stolen gas cans.

On Wednesday, Sgt. Brian Durham of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department spoke to three residents on Bertie Lane in Hampton. Rita Burke, of 106 Bertie Lane, Lot 41, said someone had broken into her outbuilding and stole numerous items. A Lowe’s generator, valued at $800, about $2,000 in carpentry tools, and a Dewault Sawzall, valued at $300, were all missing from the building. The woman said a five-gallon gas can was also taken.

Durham also spoke to a neighbor, Kay Hall, who said someone entered her outbuilding, although nothing appeared to be missing. The padlocks to both buildings had been cut.

Hall said she saw a suspicious red truck in the area.

Pat Vest, of 102 Bertie Lane, Lot 1, said someone had cut the lock off her building as well. Vest said someone took a five-gallon can of gas out of her building and left it sitting outside with several other cans. Nothing else was reported missing.

Another resident, June Scott, of 102 Bertie Lane, Lot 2, also reported a burglary. She said someone had cut the lock off her outbuilding and stole a five-gallon can of gas from the building.

The burglaries remain under investigation by the CCSD.
