Chamber website to include new tourism feature
As part of an effort to promote tourism in Carter County, the local chamber of commerce is continuing to put the final touches on a new website. Chamber officials are hopeful that one new feature, in particular, will spotlight some of the county’s “hidden gems” to potential tourists.
Annika Hampton of the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce said the new website is part of their ongoing efforts to attract tourists to the area. She said the site will include more interactive features for individuals who are looking for additional information about points-of-interest when they travel to East Tennessee.
“During the tourism off-season, I’ve been looking at ways to promote area destinations. One of the things we have come up with is the idea for an ‘ask-a-local’ feature,” Hampton said. She noted that the chamber has recently sent out notices to people in the area asking for their tips on places to visit during a trip to Elizabethton and Carter County.
“Unless you live here, there are certain places in the area that visitors to the area just don’t know about. Whether it’s the Blue Hole or other destinations in the county, the ‘ask-a-local’ feature will give visitors added insight into the various gems that we have,” Hampton added.
In addition to the tourism destination tips, Hampton said it will give specific information from area residents on why they recommend that particular place.
Hampton said the Chamber is hopeful that they can get 52 tips from residents in Elizabethton and Carter County. She added that that number would allow them to feature a different point-of-interest for every week of the year.
The Chamber of Commerce is also asking local citizens to send in pictures showing them enjoying the various places around the county. Hampton said the photos will give residents “a way to get involved and, at the same time, it will add additional insight for our visitors.” She also added the pictures should include their names and the location where the photograph was taken.
Hampton said the chamber is hopeful that their new website will be completed some time during the month of February.
