Woman arrested for assisting prison escapees
A woman who drove two escapees from the prison in Roan Mountain on Thursday faces felony charges, including aggravated assault, accessory to escape, facilitation of escape and conspiracy.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., two male inmates at the Northeast Correctional Facility in Roan Mountain reportedly went underneath a fence and escaped. The men were identified as Robert Wayne Jennings, 38, and Troy Layne, 40.
Tennessee Department of Correction offficers found the men in Cocke County, Tenn., where they also located a woman, identified as Jolene Abbott, 37. Further investigation identified Abbott as the driver of a silver vehicle which struck Carter Couny Sheriff’s Department Deputy Larry Vaughn during the escape.
