Man pleads guilty to robbing Milligan resident
One of two men accused of robbing a Milligan woman last year at her apartment has pleaded guilty to the charges.
Dantez Markey Jones, 21, appeared before Special Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood on Friday in Carter County Criminal Court. Blackwood is currently working for Judge Lynn Brown, who is out for medical reasons. Blackwood approved Jones’ plea.
Jones pleaded guilty to robbery and aggravated burglary in the Milligan robbery case. He also pleaded to a separate charge of theft over $500 out of Washington County. A charge of theft over $500 in the Milligan case was dismissed, as were vandalism and resisting arrest charges out of Washington County.
Jones was one of two suspects pointed out by the victim in a photographic lineup after the April 28, 2011 incident. Dshannon Clarence Goins of Johnson City was also arrested in the case.
Jones, Goins and a third unidentified person allegedly entered a Country Garden Road residence, where the victim and her child were in bed upstairs.Kristen Treadway told Investigator Brad Johnson that her home had previously been broken into on April 22 and her rear door had been damaged and could not be locked. On April 28 at 2 a.m., Treadway said she heard a noise coming from downstairs. She had moved a refrigerator in front of the door because it had previously been damaged. She went downstairs and saw two black males and a white male move around the refrigerator.
The victim said she heard one of the black males state “she seen us.” She said all three subjects approached her and one of the men forced her to the ground, face down. A suspect who she recognized, who she identified as Jones, went upstairs as the other two men, including Goins, allegedly held her down.
Jones allegedly returned downstairs and the three men left the residence. Treadway said the three men fled down Country Garden Road toward Milligan College, without a vehicle.
After the victim was free, she checked on her child and discovered that only a cell phone valued at $50 had been taken.
Judge Blackwood has scheduled a sentencing hearing on March 29 to determine whether Jones should receive probation or jail time for the crime. He remains incarcerated in the Carter County Jail on the charges.
Goins is scheduled to return to court on March 13 for a plea deadline.
