One injured in fiery crash on Milligan Highway

By

A fiery crash on the Milligan Highway on Friday evening sent one person to a local hospital for treatment.

Officer Joseph Holsclaw of the Elizabethton Police Department said the accident occurred on the Milligan Highway near the Sunoco gas station at 9:43 p.m. The officer said he spoke to Macy G. Edwin, 29, when he arrived on scene.

Edwin, of 3216 Mayfield Drive, Apt. 1, Johnson City, was driving a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria and told Holsclaw he was traveling south on the Milligan Highway when a northbound 1988 Ford F250 truck made a left turn without yielding the right of way, which caused the collision.

As a result of the collision, the truck caught fire, which was extinguished by a nearby resident.

The truck was driven by Toby S. Richardson, 26, of 205 Okolona Road, Johnson City. Holsclaw said his investigation, including witness statements, confirmed Edwin’s statement. Richardson was then charged with failure to yield with contact and failure to comply with the financial responsibility law.

Richardson was taken by the Carter County Rescue Squad to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment. Edwin was not injured.
