TSBDC at ETSU will offer small business training
JOHNSON CITY — The Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) at East Tennessee State University will offer potential entrepreneurs several training classes in February. Registration is required for all classes.
On Wednesday, Feb. 8, a “How to Build an Effective Website for Small Business” workshop will meet from 9-11 a.m. at the ETSU Innovation Laboratory in Johnson City. Topics will include establishing the purpose of a website, the importance of domain names and how to obtain them, navigation, design, and content, as well as search engine optimization. Participants should bring a laptop, tablet and smart phone.
• “So You Want to Start a Business” will be offered on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 1-4 p.m., at the Innovation Laboratory. The free class covers the ways TSBDC can assist entrepreneurs and addresses preparation for the loan process, licensing requirements and how to assess the market.
• A “Small Business Tax Workshop” will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 9 a.m.-noon at ETSU at Kingsport. Attendees will learn tax-filing requirements, recordkeeping basics, estimated taxes, and use of a home for business. There is a $5 fee for the class.
• An “Employer Tax Workshop,” scheduled from 1-4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at ETSU at Kingsport, will include information about withholding employee income and social security taxes, depositing employee withholdings using EFTPS 3, and making federal unemployment tax payments. The workshop has a $5 fee.
• “Writing Your Business Plan” will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, from 1-4 p.m. at the Innovation Laboratory. The workshop covers the components of a business plan, exercises to assist with the first steps, and information about free personal coaching. There is a $20 fee for the class.
• “Research for Business Planning” on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 2-4 p.m. at Innovation Laboratory will provide instruction about the components of a business plan and practice creating a start-up budget, as well as how to use the services of the Tennessee Small Business Development Center. There is a $10 fee for the class.
