Miss Watauga Valley Pageant announces contestants
The Miss Watauga Valley Executive Committee is pleased to announce the contestants for the 2012 Miss Watauga Valley Scholarship Pageant.
This year marks the 20th crowning of a Miss Watauga Valley. The pageant is a local preliminary to Miss Tennessee and Miss America Pageant and was organized in 1985 by Jim and Edna Potter. The pageant is now directed by Linda Adams and Becky Davis Simerly. The very first Miss Watauga Valley, Sonya Elizabeth Pleasant, later went on to win the title of Miss Tennessee in 1985.
The pageant is open to all young women ages 17-24 across the state of Tennessee. The winner will go on to compete in the Miss Tennessee Pageant held each June in Jackson. The winner will also win a $500 scholarship, among other prizes. The 2012 pageant will be held at T.A. Dugger Junior High School Auditorium in Elizabethton at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 11 to six. Children five and under are free.

The contestants are as follows:
Jessica Daniel, Lynchburg. She is a 21-year-old student at East Tennessee State University. Her platform issue is “One Beat at a Time.” For her talent, she will perform a Pointe Dance Routine.
Rebecca Easley, Union City. She is a 19-year-old student at Middle Tennessee State University. Her platform issue is “Keeping Arts in the Community.” For her talent, she will sing.
Camille Garner is 19 years old from Tullahoma. She attends Tennessee Technological University. Her platform issue is “Operation: Military Kids.” For her talent, Camille will dance.
Nora Beth Moran, Kingsport. She is a 22-year-old graduate of King College. Her platform issue is “Get PSYCHed about life: Positive Support for Your Cognitive Health.” For her talent, she will sing.
Priya Narapareddy, Jackson. She is a 20-year-old student at Union University. Her platform issue is “Speak Out: Speak Now!” For her talent, she will sing.
Macie Peterson, Erwin. She is a 20-year-old student at East Tennessee State University. Her platform issue is “Encouraging Music Education in Children.” For her talent, she will play the piano.
Heather Roberts, Spring City. She is a 22-year-old graduate student at Mississippi State University. Her platform issue is “Storm Ready Tennessee.” For her talent, she will play the piano.
Jasmine Secrest, Memphis. She is a 21-year-old student at Middle Tennessee State University. Her platform issue is “Building a Positive Self Esteem.” For her talent, Jasmine will perform a Jazz Dance.
Maria Shepherd, Spring City. She is a 20-year-old student at Lee University. Her platform issue is “Alzheimer’s Awareness: Reaching to Remember.” For her talent, she will play the clarinet.
Lacy Wade, Springville. She is a 23-year-old student at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Her platform issue is “Character Counts/Peer Pals.” For her talent, she will sing.
