Hunter U-M Youth hosts Justin Lookadoo event

By

The Hunted United Methodist Youth Group will sponsor “An Evening With Justin Lookadoo” on Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. at T.A. Dugger Junior High Auditorium.

Justin Lookadoo

On Saturday, Feb. 18, Lookadoo will be speaking at the Pledge 2 Purity event in Bristol.

Justin Lookadoo is a motivational speaker and best selling author. Interest in helping kids began as a college pre-med student when he became concerned with what drugs and alcohol do to brain cells.

His concern for youth turned into action in 1988 when he began working as a Juvenile Probation Officer Crime Prevention Specialist. By using positive prevention programs, the referral rate to juvenile probation in the county he worked dropped 61 percent below projections. Justin left the justice system to tour the U.S. to speak in public schools and at leadership conferences for MADD, DARE and FFA. Now Justin travels across America, helping youth take on the issues they face every day whether it’s bullies, relationships, or test anxiety.

He graduated from Tarleton State University, where he spent a lot of time studying the body, especially how it works and how drugs and chemicals can mess up your insides as well as how gender differences impact the development of the human brain. He talks about drugs, not as someone who has tried them (he hasn’t), but as a biologist who knows the truth behind all of the myths. Justin breaks down the complicated jargon into bite-size pieces that are easy to understand.

He is a #1 bestselling author for his book “Dateable” and has had three other books on the bestseller lists. Two of his books have been nominated for the prestigious Gold Medallion Award and he has sold over 275,000 books nationwide. Not bad for a kid whose two worst subjects were reading and writing.

The event is for area youth.

The Curtis Band will present special music. Advance tickets are $5, $7 at the door. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The event will be a fundraiser for the United Way and tickets will be available for a donation of $5. Tickets will be available through the United Way office. To contact the United Way, call 543-6975.
