Imagination Library sets date for Hall of Fame

By

The Elizabethton-Carter County Imagination Library has set a date for their 2012 Educators Hall of Fame.

The gala will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13. The committee discussed the gala during their last month’s meeting. Members felt it was best to set a date early so they could book their entertainment and catering before other events start to fill up the calendar.

The committee had been working to get impersonator David Browning as the entertainment. Browning is most well known for his Barney Fife impersonations but he does other characters as well. Their plans did not come to fruition as Browning already had a previous booking for the night of the gala.

Chair Lilo Duncan asked the committee members if they knew of any other entertainment that could be booked for the gala. Peggy Campbell said she knew of a local band that might be interested in playing and Kelly Geagley recommended a local impersonator who takes on the persona of different historical figures.

The committee is also working to secure a caterer for the event. Duncan has been in contact with some local restaurants. She noted she was hoping to work with a restaurant that has not catered the gala before to offer business to different local restaurants instead of using the same one.

Duncan also informed the committee of a fundraising event that had been presented to them by Dino’s Restaurant. Duncan said she had been approached with an opportunity for the Imagination Library to take part in the fundraiser. She said the restaurant would work with local non-profits and give them 10 percent of the total sales from the restaurant for four Mondays if the agency would spread the word among the community.

The committee questioned if the customers would need to present a slip or to say the Imagination Library sent them. They also asked if it would just be for part of the day or for the whole day. Duncan said as she understood it the customers just had to come in and eat and the Imagination Library would receive 10 percent of the proceeds for the whole day. The committee agreed this was something that they should pursue.

The committee approved their budget requests to the city and county. Treasurer Joyce White said that last year they requested $5,000 from both the city and the county. The Imagination Library received $5,000 from the county and $4,900 from the city. She recommended they leave their request as it was. The committee unanimously approved the decision.

The committee also agreed to sign up as volunteers for the pre-race activities at Bristol Motor Speedway in March since they do receive funding from the Speedway Children’s Charities.
