I am writing this letter to the editor as a result of a recent situation that I experienced at Pine Ridge Nursing Home with the people who were helping the residents vote. First, let me say that I am not criticizing the good folks who do this work because they do a good job and one that is necessary. The problem is that a lot of the residents don’t know who they are voting for and are not capable of making that decision.
The nursing home should have a family member or an ombudsman present to assist the resident when the voting takes place. I know for a fact that my mother voted when she was very sick and under the influence of medication and didn’t know what she was doing. This system of voting is not right and something should be done to correct it.
