By

A man injured in an early morning explosion at an Elizabethton city garage remains in serious condition at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Bobby Lilly suffered a head injury about 9 a.m. Tuesday at the city garage, located at 729 S. Sycamore Street in Elizabethton. Fire Chief Barry Carrier said the man was cutting the top of a 55-gallon barrell when the explosion occurred.

A second individual, who has not been identified, was also taken to the hospital, although Carrier said he had no physical injuries. The man was complaining of headache after he was knocked down by the explosion.

Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), along with bomb and arson investigators from the state’s division of fire prevention have been asked to look for the cause of the explosion.

The STAR will have more details as they become available in the print edition and at starhq.com.
