Buffaloes done after bowing to Reinhardt

WALESAK, Ga. — The Milligan Buffaloes saw their tournament season come to a quick end Tuesday night, as their upset bid of second-seeded Reinhardt University fell short 63-54 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference quarterfinals.

Reinhardt opened the game on a 12-2 run over the first eight minutes, but Tyler DeVault and Marshall Hardy helped the Buffaloes pull within two — 13- 12 — with 7:42 left in the half.

The Eagles extended their lead, but senior Cordero Seymour hit a jumper at the 4:54 mark — pulling Milligan back within five points. The teams traded shots to end the half, which saw Reinhardt on top 27- 22.

Hardy led the Buffaloes in the first half with six points. As a team, Milligan was 8-of-27 (30%) from the field and 0-for-2 from the 3-point line. Reinhardt ended the half 7-of-23 (30 percent) from the floor and 4-of-13 (31) from the behind the arc.

Hardy and DeVault hit baskets to open the second half as Milligan cut the gap to 27-26 with 15:42 to go, but the Eagles bounced back and regained an eight-point advantage. Torian Sitton’s basket with 8:58 left left the Buffaloes down by only three (42-39).

The teams traded shots over the next five minutes as Reinhardt held onto a 5-47 lead with just under three minutes to play. However, Milligan was unable to respond to a Reinhardt run before time expired.

Sitton paced Milligan with 17 points. Hardy had 13 points, while DeVault ended the game with 10 points. Seymour recorded nine points in his final game in a Milligan uniform.

As a team, Milligan was 20-of-51 (39 percent) from the field and 0-of-7 from behind the arc. The Eagles finished the game 18-of-46 (39%) from the floor and 8-of-24 (37%) from the 3-point line.

The Buffaloes closed the season with a 10-17 record. Milligan, which finished seventh in the AAC at 6-10, lose Bryant Edwards, Hardy and Seymour to graduation.
