Gray Fossil Site museum director will retire Feb. 29
GRAY (AP) — The director of the Gray Fossil Site museum is retiring.
Jeanne Zavada called her tenure “quite a run,” but said now is a good time to step down. Zavada is the first director of the museum and has been there as the first 250,000 visitors came.
Zavada’s husband, Michael Zavada, was hired as head of the biological sciences department of East Tennessee State University in 2006. At the same time, the university was looking for a director for the museum, which was being planned.
Jeanne Zavada oversaw construction of the museum. She will retire at the end of this month.
The site, rich in fossils, was discovered by a crew building a road in 2000.
