The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17 and Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at the Southside Christian Church Recreation Building (the old school) on Southside Road. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with a business meeting to follow at 7 p.m. All members are requested to attend. The chapter normally meets the second Thursday of each month. Anyone who is service-connected and disabled or who thinks they might be is invited to attend and get more information.

The Carter County Humane Society will meet at 6 p.m. at Doe River Baptist Church.

A Breast Cancer Awareness and Support Group will meet at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in the classrooms from 7 to 8 p.m. For more information, call Lisa Cole at 542-1394 or email ColeLM@msha.com. The support group meets the second Thursday of each month.

 

FridayOct. 12

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Music will be provided by the Rambling Rose Band. Those attending are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge.

The Johnson City Woman’s Club will meet at the Johnson City Public Library, 100 W. Millard St. A welcoming coffee begins at 10:45 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 11 a.m. At noon, a catered luncheon will be served. The cost for lunch is $12 per person. The club invites anyone with an interest in serving the community, making new friends and participating in various social activities to come to the meeting. Southern Countrymen Band will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Outdoorsman on Stone Drive in Kingsport. Admission is $5. For more information, call Daryl Goodman at 943-5600.

The Elizabethton Civitan Club will raise the American flag at participating business locations to celebrate the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus on Oct. 12, 1492. For more details about the Civitan Flag Service, interested businesses may call 542-2092.

 

SaturdayOct. 13

Hampton Christian Church, located behind Hampton High School, will host a Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include games, a bake sale, canned goods, crafts, handmade sewn items and much more. There will also be hot dogs with all the fixings. The festival is a fundraiser for the church’s recreation building kitchen.

The Carter County Democratic Party’s Executive Committee will hold its quarterly meeting at 10:30 a.m. in its campaign headquarters located at 441 East Elk Ave., downtown Elizabethton. Kids Our Age will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Buffalo Ruritan Club in Bluff City. Admission is $5.

The former students of Southside School in Elizabethton will be having their third school reunion from 2 to 4 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend the reunion at the old school and bring a covered dish or two to share. For more information, call 542-6367 or 542-9912.

Happy Valley Elementary will have a Fall Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. Activities will include hay rides, games, inflatables and face paintin. The event will also offer food and lots of fun. Bring your friends and family. All proceeds will benefit the Accelerated Reader Program.
