Elizabethton found the perfect spell for the Patriots’ second-half magic, racing to a 16-point lead in the final 16 minutes and holding on for their first District 1-AA championship since 2003 with a 55-46 victory over the top seed Tuesday night at Treadway Gymnasium.
“We’ve been playing with a chip on our shoulder,” said Elizabethton junior Zeke Clark, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. “The last time we played them we thought we had it won and they came back. We played a lot harder tonight, all the way through.”
