When Lela Byrd celebrated her 5th birthday, her wish list for her party was unusual, asking for no presents for herself.
Instead, Lela asked her friends to bring backpacks filled with school supplies for other students whose families aren’t able to afford school supplies to start the new school year.

Through the party, Lela collected six backpacks and many glue sticks, scissors, pencils, crayons, rulers, paper, colored pencils, markers, pencil boxes and other school supplies.
