Highlanders, Longhorns post impressive wins at Battle

BRISTOL, Va. — Northeast Tennessee basketball no doubt proved that it’s best in a pair of matchups against Southwest Virginia foes on Friday night.

In the Adelphia Resources Tip-Off at John S. Battle, Cloudland disposed of the host school 63-51. Earlier, Johnson County whipped Clintwood 69-43.

The Highlanders were going without a starter and top reserve, but weren’t challenged for the most part.

Mason Carnett totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds to pace Cloudland (5-3). Austin Whitehead also scored 18, while Logan Russell delivered 13 points, seven boards and a pair of steals.

Brian Dempsey paced the rout with 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The Longhorns (3-4) also got 14 points from J.R. Speed. Dalton Timbs delivered 13 points, five boards and three steals.
