911 moving forward after failed deadline by CCRS
Members of the Carter County 911 board of directors say they were surprised Wednesday afternoon when the Carter County Rescue Squad failed to meet a deadline to pay for services.
The 911 district’s three local governments, including Elizabethton, Watauga and Carter County, had been given a deadline set for Wednesday to fund dispatch services at 911. The rescue squad had been forced to pay for its own dispatch services at 911 after the county and Elizabethton refused to assist in the costs. As a result, the 911 district asked the rescue squad to sign a contract for approximately $58,000.
