Agreement to bring new Star ownership

An agreement for sale of the Elizabethton Star by Elizabethton Newspapers Inc. and its owners, the Robinson family, has been reached in principle.

The transaction will be complete by the end of the year. The buyer will be a newly formed Tennessee entity, Elizabethton Newsmedia, LLC.

Elizabethton Newsmedia will publish the Elizabethton Star, starhq.com, appointments and affiliated publications.
Owners of the new publishing company will be Boone Newspapers Inc., or BNI, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and its key personnel. Boone Newspapers Inc. will be the controlling party in the new company.

BNI manages newspapers in similar-sized communities in North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Minnesota, Ohio and Michigan.

Todd H. Carpenter of Natchez, Miss., is president and COO of BNI, and James B. Boone Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala., is CEO. Timothy D. Prince, publisher of the Shelby County (Ala.) Reporter, Clanton (Ala.) Advertiser, and a key manager for BNI, will also be working in transition of the newspaper to new ownership.

Carpenter and Prince are among the new owners.
