Three Cyclones and a Warrior will be representing their schools at the state wrestling meet, which is an accomplishment in itself, since they had to go through three of the top five teams in the state during the region meet.
“What we saw this weekend, for small schools, is that the east region is by far the dominate region,” Happy Valley head coach Eddie Morrell said. “There is so much good, hard wrestling and the kids that are coming out of this region have a really good shot of placing at state.”
The best finish was for Cyclone senior Marvin Areas, who pinned all four of his opponents to finish in first place at 170 pounds.
“I am so happy for Marvin,” Elizabethon head coach Donnie Shipley said. “This is his third year wrestling and he finally made it to the state. The last two years he had been within a match of going to the state and just barely missed it.”
