Arzella L. Bowman, 90, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness.

 

She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late James Austin and Julie Belle Riggs Large.

 

Mrs. Bowman retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 45 years of working in the tire cord department. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Elizabethton.

 

Mrs. Bowman liked to square dance and loved to fish.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Bowman; two sons, Eddie Dean Bowman and Michael Alvin Bowman; a brother, John Large; and four sisters, Katheryn Little, Juanita Cook, Selma Range and Frances Hyder.

 

Mrs. Bowman is survived by a daughter-in-law, Paulette Bowman, Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Shana Burrow and husband Anthony, Michael Bowman and wife Beth, and Jeff Bowman, all of Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren, Sarah O’Dell, Michaela Bowman, Zoe Burrow and Cody Bowman, all of Elizabethton; and a step-great-granddaughter, Keyla Lyons, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Bowman will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 30, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Grindstaff Family. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the home of her daughter-in-law, Paulette Bowman, at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Vines, Terry Grindstaff, Paul Adams, Michael Bowman, Anthony Burrow and Jeremy Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Julian, Harol Smith, S. Joe Taylor, David Ferguson, Joe Younce, Rick Younce and Keith Younce. A special “thank you” is extended to Dr. Vivian Clark, the staff of Pine Ridge Care Center and two special caregivers, Suzanne and April.
