Author Scott Nicholson next speaker for High Country Writers

The next meeting of the High Country Writers will feature award-winning author, Scott Nicholson, as the first speaker of 2014.
Nicholson will be speaking to the group about the ups and downs of digital publishing. The program will be held Thursday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Watauga County Public Library in Boone, N.C. The public is invited.

 
Nicholson has become a local legend in Boone, N.C., where he dreams up all manners of frightful stories told with the Appalachians as their backdrop and mountain lore as their inspiration.

 
To know him, one might be surprised to learn the unassuming Nicholson with his quiet demeanor and shy smile is the force behind a number of internationally best selling novels of horror and suspense. His novel, The Red Church, was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award and his work, Vampire Shortstop, won the Writers of the Future L. Ron Hubbard Gold Award in 1999.
A prolific writer, Nicholson has written 20 novels, 80 short stories, four children’s books, screenplays, comic books and books of non-fiction as well as collaborating on five books with J.R. Rain.

High Country Writers is an organization which fosters the growth and creativity of writers of all genres offering its members support, constructive criticism and professional development.

 
The meetings are held at 10 a.m. at the Watauga County Library on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Guests are welcome. Meetings are cancelled when the Watauga County Schools are closed for inclement weather.
