Fire and rescue personnel are currently fighting a fire that has nearly consumed a trailer in west Carter County.
At 8:51 a.m., the call went out for any and all available units to respond to the fire at 108 Bailey Lane. Members of the West Carter County, Central, Hampton and Stoney Creek volunteer firefighters responded to the call, while the Carter County Rescue Squad and Sheriff’s Department stood by to assist any injured.
Neither Michelle Nickles nor her three children, who live in the trailer, were present during the fire, and, at this time, it is believed that only Nickles’ two dogs were inside when the blaze began. Nickles arrived on the scene nearly 30 minutes after the call went out, and was seen crying in the driveway as firefighters tried to contain the scene.
Authorities estimate that the property will be a total loss. Although firefighters are hosing down the home, flames continue to creep through the roof, and authorities still have been unable to enter. Flames reached high enough to sever the power lines connected to the trailer, and passersby could see them thrashing and sparking on the street.
