The late, great Dino Senesi always said it would never rain on his golf tournament.
With an 80 percent chance of wet weather slated for Monday’s 18th annual Senesi Golf Tournament presented by AT&T at Elizabethton Golf Course, prognosis for the event’s first year as a memorial appeared dim.
When the 17 teams of golfers arrived to give back to the Boys & Girls Club of Elizabethton and Carter County — a cause close to Dino’s heart — they were welcomed by dry skies and perfect golfing weather.
“I would like to thank Dino because it hasn’t rained a drop on us,” said Boys and Girls Club director John Malone. “He always said it would never rain on this tournament and it hasn’t. It’s unbelievable.
“This makes 18 years of Dino Senesi golf and this is the first one as a memorial. Dino passed away and we want to memorialize him and thank him and his family for all they’ve done for the Boys and Girls Club. The man spent 30-some years just dedicating his life to children and helping the Boys and Girls Club. We’re really happy that we could keep this tournament going in his name.”
