The budget cycle has come and gone in Carter County and, for some county residents, it has been a bitter pill to swallow.
Many are aware that the Carter County Commission approved an 18-cent tax increase, putting the property tax rate at $2.33 for every $100 of a home’s value. Others may also be aware that, despite the increase, with few exceptions, services from county offices are being limited, or cut altogether.
Those individuals may find themselves asking a very basic question – why are services being reduced when the tax rate is going up?
