Banner season for Elizabethton’s junior varsity girls

Following the lead of their varsity teammates, Elizabethton’s junior varsity girls cruised to another successful campaign.

Led by a junior, three sophomores and a bevy of talented freshmen, the Lady Cyclones delivered an 18-2 overall record with a conference championship victory over Sullivan East.

“The team really, really worked hard,” said Russ Lyon, who coached the junior varsity alongside Richard Hyder. “They grew up a lot. The freshman group really played hard all the way around. It’s an amazing group of young ladies.

“We had a lot of good leadership from our four upperclassmen. They really did a good job for us and made a difference as far as leadership for our younger girls.”

Junior Kyra McCrary, sophomores Melenda Perry, Emily Kiser and Emily Schubert provided a measure of experience for the team over the course of the year. Along with freshman Haley Burleson, the five provided a good start for the squad in regular season contests to set the tone.
