Former Elizabethton resident Darriel Christoffel received a special surprise last week when she was given an early Christmas present, a print of the Covered Bridge.
Christoffel was given the print after her son, Lewis Christoffel, contacted the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce looking for a picture of the Covered Bridge as a present for his mother. After hearing her story, staff of the Chamber of Commerce and Carter County Tomorrow and the Workforce Development Complex gave Christoffel a print that had been donated by Donna and Eddie Honeycutt.
Christoffel, whose maiden name is Merritt, had lived in Elizabethton from the time she was born until she was married in the 1940s and moved
to Asheville, N.C.
