There’s a familiar refrain in Elizabethton.
It’s the sound of a state championship.
For the second year in a row – and the third time in four years – the Elizabethton High School Betsy Band captured first place in the Tennessee State Division II Marching Band Competition in Thompson Station on Saturday.
In addition to the state crown, the band earned second place in color guard.
“That is pretty cool,” said EHS Band Director Perry Elliott. “It was a great trip, and it was a great performance.”
During the preliminary portion of the competition, Elliott said the band had the highest scoring performance. Also, the band won high music and tied with Fred J. Page High school for high visual. The Betsy Band also took second in field commander and second in color guard in the preliminaries. No awards are given for high music and high visual in the finals.
