Members of the Elizabethton High School Betsy Band will be on the road this weekend to take part in their first competition of the fall marching season, at Bristol’s Stone Castle. The group will take to the field at 7 p.m. Saturday to perform selections from the show, “Wright to the Moon.”
Taking place on the grounds of Tennessee High School, the event will feature almost 20 area high school marching bands from Tennessee and Virginia. The day will commence at 10:30 a.m. and conclude around 9 p.m. Admission fee to the contest is $8, with proceeds going to the Mighty Viking Band. The Stone Castle is located at 1112 Edgemont Ave.
Band Boosters President Tim Smith recommends those planning to support Betsy arrive at the competition at least 40 minutes before the evening’s performance time. Concessions, band gear, souvenirs, printed programs and scorecards will be available for purchase. The Betsy Clappers will be at the show, attired in orange and black. Fans are encouraged to bring their shakers and noise makers, also.
The contest, according to Band Director Perry Elliott, will be divided into five groups, with Betsy competing in Class IV.
Band students will report to the practice band field Saturday at 8:30 a.m. to prepare for the competition. Practice will conclude at 1 p.m. with students breaking for lunch, returning at 2:30 and departing for Tennessee High by 2:45. Betsy is expected to return by 11 p.m. Saturday.
