Bowers withdraws as write-in candidate

First Commission District write-in candidate Donald Scott Bowers has notified the Elizabethton STAR and the Carter County Election Commission office that he is no longer a candidate for the post.

Bowers had initially informed Election Administrator Tracy Harris that he was an official write-in candidate against Commissioner Buford Peters in the Thursday, Aug. 2 county general election. Bowers informed the election commission office on Monday that he is no longer seeking the position.

Peters is the only candidate who appears on the ballot to fill the remaining two-year term of Paul Mottern. Last fall, Peters was appointed to the seat by the Carter County Commission until the next county general election.
