Although the finished product represents the conclusion of nearly three full months of work, some in county government know their work isn’t finished.
“I have mixed emotions, I guess,” said Finance Director Ingrid Deloach. “I’m glad that it’s over, but we’ve got a tough year ahead of us. Lots of offices have taken a 5 percent cut, and some of those offices cut services that we will have to seek additional funding for.”
Others said that, with the budget in place, business can continue as usual.
“The first thing I did when I got back to the office was instruct the supervisor of textbooks to go ahead and order the textbooks,” said Director of Carter County Schools Kevin Ward. “We’re getting ready to start school. Now that this budget is behind us, we’ll work with the board and look closely to next year, and do everything in our power to present another balanced budget.”
