AFTON — Chuckey-Doak tried to play like Ebenezer Scrooge and spoil Hampton’s Christmas holiday, but in the end the ’Dogs broke them down like “Tiny Tim.”
Hampton received a “Jacob Marley” type warning from the Black Knights, but was able to bag a 58-55 road win on Friday night.
Coach Ned Smith agreed that an ugly victory was better than a pretty loss anytime. But he didn’t hide his disappointment at how his team performed.
“We just couldn’t seem to get a good run tonight,” said Smith. “We didn’t play with good intensity on defense nor did we box out or rebound well. We didn’t seem to be playing hard at times and that’s frustrating. But my kids did battle hard late in the game and got the lead back. We changed up our defense and found a way to win. That’s about all I can say for this one.”
