The broom was unavoidable. Elizabethton had no answer for Burlington.
The Royals handed Twins standout Tim Shibuya (3-1) his first loss of the season with a combined three runs over the sixth and seventh innings to complete a three-game sweep with a 5-4 victory at Joe O’Brien Field Tuesday.
Elizabethton (12-6), which struggled at the plate the previous two games, out-hit the Royals 10-9 but left 11 runners stranded — a key number in a tight game.
“They were three hard-fought games,” said Twins manager Ray Smith. “We didn’t swing the bat. Tonight, we swung the bat a little bit better, we just left too many guys on base. The guys gave a good effort. The balls just weren’t dropping for us tonight.
