Heavy rains and two lightning delays couldn’t prevent the Elizabethton Aces from trumping Piney Bluff in the opening round of the Cal Ripken 8-year old All Star tournament on Friday night at T.J. Burleson Field. The Aces scored half of their runs in the second inning en route to its 10-0 win.
Coach Rick Smithdeal was happy with his team’s play after the victory. He’s said they’ve used the past few practices to try and get everything in place.
“Our kids came out ready to play tonight,” said Smithdeal. “It’s been a matter of getting everyone in the right places. Most of them have played the same positions all year, so trying to get them in the right spots in a short time can be hard. But we’ve been able to do that and tonight they all had good games. I was proud of them all.”
