ELIZABETHTON — Happy Valley’s Kaitlin Campbell and Brittany Morefield each pounded out three hits apiece as the Lady Warriors posted an 11-1 win over Sullivan North Tuesday.
Campbell had a pair of doubles, drove in three teammates and scored once in the contest. Morefield scored three times and also drove in three, which included a two-run home run in a six-run outburst during the opening inning.
Happy Valley batted around in that first inning to seize control behind a 6-1 lead.
“After the showing we gave at Elizabethton, we needed to come out and do something,” Happy Valley head coach Mike Dorsey said about the victory.
Krisley Roberts gave up the lone run on five hits from the Lady Warriors’ circle. She struck out three foes and walked two others in a complete-game effort. With the bat, Roberts was 2-for-3 and scored twice. She also swiped two bases. Roberts scored the game-ending run on Campbell’s ball to right field in the bottom of the fifth.
Overall the Lady Warriors did not let the rain slow down the running game with five stolen bases Tuesday.
Happy Valley produced a team effort as eight players scored, seven had at least one hit and seven had an RBI. Kiara Coffey added a multi-hit effort by going 2-for-3 with a double while Kaylee Street’s only hit was a double. Allison Williams added a triple as well.
The win gave Happy Valley a 4-4 mark in the Three Rivers Conference and an overall mark of 8-12 going into Thursday’s game against Johnson County. Sullivan North left with a 0-7 league record and 2-20 overall.
“They know that they have to win the next two conference games to keep us in the thick of things. If they do that, then we will let things fall where they may,” Dorsey added about the conference race.
Jessica Colley was the only Sullivan North run scorer as she came home on a RBI single from Jessica Parker.
