Cannon to fire Saturday at Shiloh battlefield

SAVANNAH, Tenn. — The roar of a cannon will be heard again at the Shiloh battlefield in West Tennessee.

The Shiloh National Military Park demonstration will take place three times on Saturday, in honor of the Independence Day weekend. Park Superintendent John Bundy said a six-pounder cannon across from the visitor center will be fired at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Each program will last about a half-hour.

The Shiloh cannon crew will explain the weapons, projectiles and procedures Civil War artillery crews used during the war.

The battle— on April 6-7, 1862 — caused 23,000 casualties.
