ERWIN — A “Burger King” like performance in the first inning was all Carter County Americans needed to run roughshod over Daniel Boone Tuesday night in their opening district all-star game. The 9-10-year olds “had it their way” in a 14-4 victory.
CCA sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning, leading to nine runs. Manager Tommy Tipton commended his squad for coming out and taking care of business in the early going.
“The pluses were getting to be home team and getting them three up and three down in the first,” said Tipton. “After that our kids wanted to go hit. They showed a lot of discipline at the plate early and we made a few good defensive plays, too. We got a little loose there in the third inning, but they bounced back and got out of it. It’s always good to win the first game. And we didn’t use up any of our pitching.”
