Carter County’s quest to knock off a strong Johnson City National All-Star team didn’t materialize Monday night in the 10-11 year-old district Little League tournament. One bad inning proved fatal in the American’s 12-4 loss at Jim Ensor Field.
Johnson City used four hits and four walks in the second inning to break open a 1-1 ball game. CCALL’s manager Terry Johnson felt like his team played well for five innings, but agreed the second one was too much for them to overcome.
“Tonight out kids learned about adversity — you can’t win every game,” said Johnson. “I expect them to bounce back. We played well except for the second inning. If the weather conditions had been a little different, who knows? It might have been a different outcome.”
