United Way Director Debbie Guy and Campaign Chair Dale Fair gear up for the agency’s celebrity bagging fundraiser.

The United Way of Elizabethton/Carter County hopes shoppers out to pick up items for their Thanksgiving meals will share in the spirit of goodwill as the agency hosts its second local celebrity bagging fundraiser at Food City next Tuesday.

The United Way will have several local officials stationed at the grocery stores in Elizabethton and Piney Flats from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to bag customers’ purchases as they check out. The guest baggers are working for donations for the United Way.

United Way Director Debbie Guy said the fundraiser collected close to $1,400 for the Elizabethton/Carter County United Way last year and helped spread awareness about what the local United Way does in the community.

“As far as a fundraiser, it was great for the United Way of Elizabethton,” Guy said. “It helped raise awareness about the agencies the United Way supports and the good that they do in the community. Just being more visible in the community does help bring about more awareness about what we do.”
