Chamber prepares for fall golf tournament

The Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce is preparing for its fourth annual Golf Tournament that will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, at the Elizabethton Municipal Golf Course.
Chamber of Commerce Events and Marketing Coordinator Stephanie McKinney said planning for the tournament was just beginning and the planning committee was still working out the details for the event. The tournament is one of the main fundraisers for the Chamber of Commerce. McKinney said the money raised from the golf tournament will be used to support the membership program and the different festivals that are held for the community.
“Everything that is raised in the golf tournament goes right back into the community,” she said.
The planning committee is still in the midst of the planning process for the tournament. They are working to secure a high-profile participant to create more interest in the event. McKinney said they had been in contact with a player on the Tennessee Titans to discuss the possibility of him playing in the golf tournament.
The Chamber is seeking sponsors for the golf tournament and for the various competitions that will be held inside the tournament itself. These will consist of a hole-in-one, longest drive, straightest drive and putting challenge. Sponsors are also needed for door prizes.
The golf tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Chick-fil-A will sponsor lunches for the players. The cost to participate in the tournament is $50 per player and teams will have four players. Last year there were approximately 22 teams that played in the tournament.
McKinney stated that the Chamber would like to add more events for the community to participate in and to continue to grow the ones that they already have.
“We have a lot of good going on,” she said. “We want to make this as successful as we can for the community. We want to grow, not only the event, but as an organization.”
Those interested in being a sponsor or signing up to play in the tournament can call the Chamber of Commerce at 547-3850.
