Chih-Long Hu to perform at ETSU Powell Piano Series

Pianist Dr. Chih-Long Hu will open the East Tennessee State University Department of Music’s 2012-13 Powell Piano Series Friday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mathes Hall auditorium.

The program includes works by Beethoven, Wagner, Kreisler and Chopin.

A faculty member in the ETSU Department of Music since 2006, Hu has performed extensively as a concert soloist, recitalist and chamber musician in Asia, Europe and North America. He was nominated for “Best Performer” and “Best Crossover Album” for his critically acclaimed CD, “Formosa Caprices,” in the 2009 Golden Melody Awards. “Rachmaninov: Etudes-Tableaux” is Hu’s most recent CD.

The ETSU Department of Music’s Powell Piano Series began in the fall of 2007 in honor of Jim and Sandy Powell and is dedicated to the advancement of solo piano performance by outstanding national and international artists.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students with ID, and are available both in advance and at the door. For tickets, more information, or special assistance for those with disabilities, call the ETSU Department of Music at 439-4276.
