Church Briefs for Friday, August 31, 2012


First Christian

Sunday Services at First Christian Church, Elizabethton, include morning worship at 9:45 a.m. with Minister Brent Nidiffer delivering the message.

Sunday evening services will be at 6 o’clock with classes for all children and youth.

Tuesday morning prayer will be held at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.

Bible study classes will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Grace Circle will meet in the Winsome Classroom for its September meeting. Choir practice will be held in the sanctuary following Bible study classes.

All other church circles will meet Thursday. The Sunrise Circle will meet at Anne McKinney’s at 10:30 a.m.; the Volunteer Circle at 2 p.m. at the church; the Esther Circle at 6:30 p.m. at Hillview Health Center, and the Ann Jett Circle at 7 p.m. at Debbie Hertzog’s.

The elders will also meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the conference room.

Trinity Baptist

Dr. Benny Carper will be the evangelist for revival services beginning Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Trinity Baptist Church, 458 W. Doe Ave.

Dr. Carper is with the Bright Spot Hour radio program in Greenville, S.C.

Services Sunday will be held at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow. Also, a 2 p.m. service will be held. Monday through Wednesday, services will begin at 7 p.m.

Special singing will also be featured for the revival.

The Dr. James Richardson is pastor.

Lighthouse Bible Church

Revival will begin Sept. 3 at the Lighthouse Bible Church with The Rev. Bob McCurry from Buladean, N.C., preaching. Rev. Pat Hammonds from Church Hill will preach on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Special singing will be presented on Monday by the Truth Faith Quartet; Tuesday by the Bible Way Trio; Wednesday by the Pearcy Brothers; Thursday by Nathan Salyers, and Friday by the Shaffer Family.

Services will begin at 7 p.m.

The church is located on Pleasant Hill Road just off Muddy Creek Road in Blountville.

Memorial Presbyterian

“God’s Presence in the Furnace” will be the theme of the morning worship sermon Sunday at Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The scripture text is Daniel 3: 14-29. The Lord’s Supper will be celebrated at the service, which will begin at 10:45 a.m.

A nursery and Children’s Small Talk will be provided.

Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m.

First United Methodist

“Have You Washed Your Heart Yet?,” based on Mark 7: 1-23, is the sermon for the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday at First United Methodist Church. A brief fellowship will be held following the service.

Sunday School will begin at 11:20 a.m.

The Men’s Prayer Group will meet Sunday at 9 a.m. in Room 108. The Sunday evening Bible study will meet at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

The Abiding Love Bible Study will meet at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Fellowship Hall.

This Wednesday, the congregation will begin having a prayer and worship service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Lynn Valley Baptist

Lynn Valley Baptist Church will open its monthly clothes closet Saturday, Sept. 7.

The clothes closet will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Clothing will be available to all ages for men, women and children.


Caldwell Springs

Revival services will begin Sunday, Sept. 2, at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, located at 1509 Blue Springs Road.

Services will be held at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, with evening services at 6:30 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. The prayer room will be open at 6 p.m.

The evangelist will be The Rev. Jamie Ferguson, pastor of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church.

Revival will be held Sept. 2-5 at Upper Shell Creek Christian Church, with services beginning Sunday at 6 p.m. and at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The evangelist will be Bud Gentry. Special music will also be presented.

A Gospel Music Arts Celebration will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church, 21508 Benhams Road, Bristol, Va.
