Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame member Archie Watkins will be at First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton for a concert Sunday at 6 p.m.
With 45 years under his belt first singing tenor with the Inspirations of Bryson City, N.C., Watkins is now a soloist.
During his tenure with the Inspirations he helped them place more songs on Singing News Radio Airplay Charts than any singing group. Watkins has had the feature vocal or more charting songs than any singer ever, including several Songs of the Year and others that peaked atop the radio charts. He also was chosen as Favorite Male Singer three times and Favorite Tenor on four occasions
In 1999, Watkins was the recipient of the coveted Singing News Marvin Norcross Award, the most prestigious award in all of Gospel Music. In October of 2007, he was inducted in the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

Sunday, Dec. 2, the first day of Advent, will be observed at First Christian Church of Elizabethton with Minister Brent Nidiffer preaching at the morning worship hour at 9:45 a.m.
Also, the first Sunday of the month is designated as Friendly Fund Sunday, with monies received going toward helping the bereaved church family. First Christian will also collect food donations for “White Christmas” to help those in need. Remember to wrap your donations in white.
Cantata practice will be held at 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
Evening worship will be held at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary and children and youth will meet in their classes.
The Ladies Bible Study group will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the Fidelis Classroom.
Morning prayer will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary.
Wednesday evening services will be held at 7 p.m. along with youth and children’s classes. The Grace Circle will meet in the Winsome Classroom.
Choir practice will be held at 8 p.m. following the evening service.
Circles, which will meet Thursday, include the Sunrise Circle at 10:30 a.m. at Anne McKinney’s home; the Volunteer Circle at 2 p.m. in the Winsome Classroom; the Ann Jett Circle at 7 p.m. at Janie Broyles’ home; and the Esther Circle at 7 p.m. at Mary Shepherd’s home.
Saturday, the Willing Workers Class will have its Christmas party at the Mills’ lakehouse.
Sunday, Dec. 9, the Children’s Committee will meet at noon, cantata practice will be at 4:15 p.m.; caroling will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by a chili supper at 7 p.m.
Also, the church board will meet at 7 p.m.
The Adult Choir of Borderview Christian Church, 1338 Bristol Highway, will present the Christmas musical “Silent Night, Holy Night” Sunday, Dec. 9, at 10:45 a.m. and again at 4 p.m.
The musical relays the impact of the night the Saviour was born. The arranger, Russell Mauldin, utilizes old carols, standard Christmas songs, as well as new praise and worship music to tell the Christmas story.
The musical will feature Marie Parlier as a soloist and Kirk Langston as narrator.
The senior minister is Kirk Langston and associate minister is Andrew Norman.

“One Starry Night,” a church-wide Christmas event for families, will be held Dec. 8 and 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brick Christian Church, 815 Watauga Road, Watauga.
As soon as they set their foot in the church visitors will travel back to ancient Bethlehem to taste, see and smell what daily life was like when Jesus was born.
Stations will include the Inn, the Palace, Stargazer Hill, the Census Taker’s Office (where families will register for the census), the Marketplace, and, of course, the Stable, where Jesus was born. There will be activities for kids of all ages.
Doors will open at 5 p.m., and will close at 8 p.m.
A photographer will be available to make family pictures. You can even dress up just like your family might have looked on that night so long ago.

God’s House Full Gospel
The Praise and Drama Team from the God’s House Full Gospel Church will hold a fundraiser at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Piney Flats Community Center on Austin Springs Road, Johnson City.
The event will feature a hotdog dinner, silent auction, crafts and a yard sale. Proceeds will help the team members pay for shirts.

The First United Methodist Church Choir will present “Emmanuel — God With Us” at the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, Dec. 2, which is the first Sunday of Advent.
The cantata blends historic carols and contemporary songs along with Scripture readings to tell the ageless story of Christmas.
A brief fellowship time will follow the service. Sunday School will begin at 11:20 a.m.
