Pleasant Beach

Newly-elected pastor, the Rev. Mark Fowler, will begin his ministry Sunday at the Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Worship services will be held at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday School will begin at 10 a.m.

Pleasant Beach is the Rev. Fowler’s first pastorate. He is formerly of Crown Bible College in Knoxville.


First Church of God

Homecoming will be held Sunday at the First Church of God, 609 N. Lynn Ave., Elizabethton.

The Rev. Bill Watson of Saltville, Va., will be guest speaker at the 11 a.m. worship service, after which lunch will be served in the fellowship hall.

Everyone is invited. The Rev. Bob Shupe is pastor.


Bethlehem Lutheran

“We Are God’s Children” will be the theme of the sermon at morning worship Sunday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 201 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City. The scripture text is I John 3: 1-3.

Morning worship will be held at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. Communion will be served at both services.

Sunday School and Bible study will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Interpreted services for the deaf are available on the second and fourth Sundays at the 10:45 a.m. service.

First United Methodist

“What Are We Waiting For” will be the theme of the Sunday morning sermon at First United Methodist Church, 325 E. E St., Elizabethton.

The scripture text is Isaiah 25: 6-10.

All Saints’ Day will be observed at the service, which begins at 10 a.m. Candles will be lit to remember deceased members and loved ones of the congregation, who have died the past year.

A brief fellowship time will be held following the service. Sunday School will begin at 11:20 a.m.

The Men’s Prayer Group will meet Sunday at 9 a.m. in Room 108. The Sunday evening Bible study will be held at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

UMY will meet Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the youth house. The G2’s will meet Tuesday from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. in the youth house. The Coolagers will meet Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m.

The Wednesday evening prayer and worship service will be held at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

The Rev. Raymond Amos is pastor and Debbie Fields is minister to children and youth.

First Presbyterian

Dr. William Kirkwood will lead the morning worship service Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. The service will begin at 11 a.m.

Adult Forum and Sunday School will be held at 9:45 a.m.

The Religion for Life radio program on WETS will feature Jonathan Haidt, author of “The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion.”


Valley Forge FWB

Pastor Appreciation Day will be observed Sunday at the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church when Pastors Randy Johnson and Mark Potter will be recognized.

The Rev. Frank Woods will be the guest speaker at both the 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. worship services.

An appreciation offering will be received for the pastors at both worship services.


St. Elizabeth Catholic

St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 510 W. C St., Elizabethton, will have its annual craft sale Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Valley Forge UM

Valley Forge United Methodist Women will have their annual Fall Harvest Sale Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items available for purchase include crafts, quilted items, baked and canned goods, jams and jellies, chowchow, green beans and pinto beans.

Hot dogs will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Proceeds will be used to benefit local charities and several community outreach projects the church participates in.

The church is located at 3974 Highway 19-E.


Lynn Valley 

A Christmas craft bazaar will be held at the Lynn Valley Baptist Church Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9 and 10. The bazaar will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Also, breakfast and lunch will be served on Saturday.

Featured will be all homemade items, including Christmas wreaths, gifts and decorations as well as baked goods.


Elizabethton Church of Christ

The 32nd Annual Biblical Viewpoints Lectureship titled “The Next Generation” will be held Nov. 5-8 at the Elizabethton Church of Christ, 137 E. C St.

The speaking schedule for the week is as follows:

Monday — James and Daniel Rogers, speaking on “When My Love to Christ Grows Weak.”

Tuesday — David and Jim Pharr on “Case Studies in Ancient Israel.”

Wednesday — Keith and Aaron Cozort on “Faith for Life.”

Thursday — Glenn and Caleb Colley on “Rise Up, O Men of God!”

Lectures begin at 7 and 8 p.m. each evening.

First Free Will

First Free Will Baptist Church will be open all day long Tuesday, Election Day, for a time of prayer. The church will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., said Pastor Nathan Jennings. “We have designated this a day of prayer, and invite the public to come by and pray for our nation, our president, our state, county and city,” Jennings said, noting there will be someone at the church the entire day to welcome people.


Hampton Church of God

Revival will be held at the Hampton Church of God, 401 First St. and Church St., Hampton.

The service Sunday will be held at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, services will be held at 7 p.m.

The evangelist will be the Rev. Wesley Ward.

East River Park

Trunk or Treat, which was scheduled last Sunday at East River Park Christian Church, has been re-scheduled for this Sunday due to the weather.

Activities will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. and will include car trunks filled with tons of candy, a huge inflatable slide, a bouncy bounce, fun games, face painting, a hot dog campfire roast, free drinks, hot chocolate and popcorn.


Memorial Presbyterian

“Another Seventy” will be the topic of the message at the morning worship service Sunday at Memorial Presbyterian Church (PCA). The scripture text is Daniel 9: 20-27.

The service will begin at 10:45 a.m., and will conclude with the observance of the Lord’s Supper.

A nursery and Children’s Small Talk are provided. On Community Sunday, children remain in the sanctuary.

Sunday School will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Memorial Presbyterian is located at 100 E. F St., Elizabethton.

Midway U-M

Russell Bennett from Kingsport will provide gospel music for the Sunday evening service at Midway United Methodist Church Sunday.

The service will start at 6 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Phillippi Baptist

The Phillippi Baptist Church Choir will celebrate its 34th anniversary Sunday, Nov. 4, with a concert at 3 p.m. The theme of the celebration concert is “Songs In The Key of Life.” Featured will be Conti Hollyfield Slover, Kisha Langston, the Sunshine Band and Youth Choir, the Turner Boys, and the Phillippi Male Chorus and Mass Choir.

A fall revival will be held Monday through Wednesday at the church with services each evening at 7 o’clock.

The evangelist will be C.C. Mills Jr., Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, Greeneville.

The public is invited to attend.
