GRAY — Fans witnessed the girl’s version of “Hoosiers” inside of Bobby Snyder Gymnasium on Monday in the championship game of the Johnson City Honda Invitational. Cloudland became the first Class A team to win the event with a stunning 65-57 victory over Sevier County.
The Lady Highlanders defeated Creek Wood and Sullivan South in their previous games to reach the finals. But to come away with first place was a huge momentum booster for head coach Matt Birchfield and his troops.
“Our effort tonight was good and we came out of the gate fast,” said Birchfield. “Sevier County is one heck of a team to try and defend and (Brittany) Tarr is a special player. This has been a great tournament — one that will prepare us for conference play. I proud of our kids for how they’ve battled the past few days.”
