Cloudland’s Jr. Highlanders rolled into Stoney Creek and balled out — capturing four victories over the home-standing Hunter Tigers in the process.
For the CMS boys squad, its 52-20 dismantling of Hunter sets the ’Landers’ record at an impressive 15-3 heading into a showdown with first-place Happy Valley Monday night. That game could very well decide how the Little Watauga title is distributed amongst the frontrunners heading into tournament play at Chuckey Doak.
Lady Jr. Highlanders 38
Lady Tigers 27
It was the toughest, most hard-fought bout of the evening, but in the end DonRae Taylor (19 pts.) and the Lady Jr Highlanders were just too much and too physical.
Both teams hit the floor intent on settling for nothing less than a victory, and the game’s physicality quickly took center stage as it often does whenever the Highlanders are in the building. The Lady ’Landers claimed the first-quarter momentum as Taylor nailed a three to end the stanza and give Cloudland a 10-5 edge.
