Roan Mountain Lodge No. 566 F&AM will hold a regular stated meeting at 7 p.m. All members are invited to attend and visiting brethren are always welcome.

The Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center will host guest speaker, 91-year-old George Hatcher, at 10 a.m. Hatcher is a World War II veteran and one of the “Erwin Nine,” a group of prisoners of war held by the Germans during the war. His story is a part of history, which he will recount with the addition of shared personal experiences. The public is invited and a special invitation is extended to all veterans. Refreshments will be served. The senior center is located at 428 E. G St.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly, or TOPS, will meet at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, 704 Siam Road, Elizabethton, on Mondays with weighing in from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Meeting begins at 6 p.m. For more information, call 213-2770.

The Al-Anon “Free To Be Me” Family Group will meet at 6 p.m. at the Watauga Baptist Association Building, 3871 Highway 19E, Elizabethton.

The Carter County Democratic Women will meet at the Democratic Election Headquarters in Elizabethton. Social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the business meeting will begin at 6 p.m. The office is on Elk Avenue next to the Wall of Honor. Young Democrats and interested parties are invited.

The Green Pastures Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

 

ThursdayAug. 30

The Roan Mountain 12-Step Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. at Magill Presbyterian Church, 296 Highway 143, Roan Mountain.

 

FridayAug. 31

Southern Countrymen Band will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Outdoorsman on Stone Drive in Kingsport. Admission is $5. For more information, call Daryl Goodman at 943-5600.

SaturdaySept. 1

The Simerly/Jenkins 37th Family Reunion will be held at the Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church picnic grounds. Reunion time is from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch beginning at 12 sharp. Please bring two covered dishes and all other supplies will be furnished. A short memorial service will be held at the Jenkins Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring family pictures to share. The Hampton High School Class of 1955 will hold its 57-year reunion at 6:30 p.m. at Shirley’s Restaurant at Watauga Lake in Hampton. For more information, call Jessie at 542-6759.

Borderline will perform for a dance from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Buffalo Ruritan Club in Bluff City. Admission is $5.

Alcoholics Anonymous 12-Step Closed Meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

Narcotics Anonymous “Just For Today” group will meet at the Crossroads Building at 12:15 p.m. Enter through the entrance at the rear of the building.

 

SundaySept. 2

Family and friends are invited to the annual Brewer/Birchfield Family Reunion at Roan Mountain State Park at the Campground Picnic Shelter. Please bring a picnic lunch for everyone to enjoy. Coffee, cups, plates, napkins and silverware will be furnished. Lunch will be served at noon. Those attending are asked to bring family history and photos to share.
