The volunteers with the Sycamore Shoals Auxiliary will host a jewelry and accessories sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The sale will be held in the hospital’s Pine Room. Payment can be made with cash, checks, credit cards and payroll deduction. All items are $5. Everyone is welcome.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly, or TOPS, will meet at Eastside Freewill Baptist Church, 704 Siam Road, Elizabethton, on Mondays with weighing in from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Meeting begins at 6 p.m. For more information, call 213-2770.

The Johnson City United Auto Workers Retirees will hold their monthly meeting at 10 a.m., at the Pipefitters Union Hall, 121 Spring St., Johnson City. All UAW retirees are invited to attend. The Al-Anon “Free To Be Me” Family Group will meet at 6 p.m. at the Watauga Baptist Association Building, 3871 Highway 19E, Elizabethton.

The Green Pastures Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

 

ThursdayOct. 11

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17 and Auxiliary will hold its monthly meeting at the Southside Christian Church Recreation Building (the old school) on Southside Road. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with a business meeting to follow at 7 p.m. All members are requested to attend. The chapter normally meets the second Thursday of each month. Anyone who is service-connected and disabled or who thinks they might be is invited to attend and get more information.

The Carter County Humane Society will meet at 6 p.m. at Doe River Baptist Church.

A Breast Cancer Awareness and Support Group will meet at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in the classrooms from 7 to 8 p.m. For more information, call Lisa Cole at 542-1394 or email ColeLM@msha.com. The support group meets the second Thursday of each month.

 

FridayOct. 12

The Elizabethton Senior Dance Club will hold a dance at the Elizabethton Elks Lodge, No. 1847, 1000 N. Sycamore St., from 7 to 10 p.m. Music will be provided by the Rambling Rose Band. Those attending are asked to bring finger foods to share. There is a $6 door charge.

The Johnson City Woman’s Club will meet at the Johnson City Public Library, 100 W. Millard St. A welcoming coffee begins at 10:45 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 11 a.m. At noon, a catered luncheon will be served. The cost for lunch is $12 per person. The club invites anyone with an interest in serving the community, making new friends and participating in various social activities to come to the meeting. The Elizabethton Civitan Club will raise the American flag at participating business locations to celebrate the discovery of the Americas by Christopher Columbus on Oct. 12, 1492. For more details about the Civitan Flag Service, interested businesses may call 542-2092.

 

SaturdayOct. 13

The former students of Southside School in Elizabethton will be having their third school reunion from 2 to 4 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to attend the reunion at the old school and bring a covered dish or two to share. For more information, call 542-6367 or 542-9912.

Happy Valley Elementary will have a Fall Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. Activities will include hay rides, games, inflatables and face paintin. The event will also offer food and lots of fun. Bring your friends and family. All proceeds will benefit the Accelerated Reader Program.

Sycamore No. 163 Order of the Eastern Star will have a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Dashiell Lodge. Members are encouraged to attend and visiting members are welcome.
