ThursdayAug. 2

The Roan Mountain 12-Step Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 7 p.m. at Magill Presbyterian Church, 296 Highway 143, Roan Mountain.


FridayAug. 3

Hampton Lodge No. 750 will hold a stated meeting at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend. Visitors are always welcome.

The Green Pastures Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet at 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Crossroads, 413 East Elk Ave., Elizabethton.

Southern Countrymen Band will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at The Outdoorsman on Stone Drive in Kingsport. Admission is $5. For more information, call Daryl Goodman at 943-5600.


SaturdayAug. 4

All Hampton Elementary and Hampton High School band members and their families are invited to a pool party at Roan Mountain State Park from 6 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 725-4591.

Roan Mountain Lodge No. 566 F&AM will hold its annual Community Picnic behind the Roan Mountain Post Office. Food will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is open to everyone.

A family reunion for descendants of Alex and Susie Knight will be held at Zion Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Gap Creek Road. Those attending are asked to meet at 11 a.m. and to plan to eat at noon sharp. All families are asked to bring covered dishes, dessert, bread and drinks to share as well as family photos, stories and other mementos. All other supplies will be furnished. The annual family reunion for descendants of Robert Montgomery and Rosa Hicks Montgomery will be held at the Hampton Christian Church Fellowship Hall at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served. Shayne will perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Buffalo Ruritan Club in Bluff City. Admission is $5.

A Sequoyah School Reunion is planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the school’s opening in 1972. The reunion will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Elizabethton to commemorate the opening of the school in 1972. The students who attended Sequoyah School came from nine school systems in Upper East Tennessee and North Carolina to receive academic and vocational training as well as physical therapy and speech and hearing services. The East Tennessee Orchid Society will hold an Orchid Auction at 2 p.m. in the Gray Ruritan Building. A free lunch will be provided at 1:30 p.m. prior to the auction. The Gray Ruritan is located behind the Appalachian Fairgrounds in Gray. For directions, visit

The Ritchie Family Reunion will be held at 1 p.m. at Unaka Baptist Church. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish. Donations will be accepted for the maintenance of the Ritchie Cemetery. For more information, call 474-3833.

The Hendrix Family Reunion will be held at the Central Church of Christ, 137 Hopson Road, at the corner of Smalling Road in Carter County.
